about

"It was my great pleasure to work with Peculiar Gentlemen on their new album, please give it a listen, you won't be disappointed." -Andy Rourke

Peculiar Gentlemen is a hard-hitting rock n’ roll band from New York City formed around the musical prowess of guitarist Steve Williams and keyboardist, Eric Maltz. With over a decade of playing together and a couple of LPs under its belt, Peculiar Gentlemen is ready to release its third full-length, When I Fall, an album richly soaked in the band’s rock roots, laden with heavy distorted guitar riffs, commanding piano melodies and a hard driving rhythm section all supported by the angelic voices of back-up singers Sara Auster and Nailah Daaj. Rounding out the sound is Steve Bryant on Drums, Jay Avon on bass and a special appearance by former Smith’s bassist, Andy Rourke, on two tracks (“Perfect One” and “Good Dog Down”).

The album’s first single, “Reload,” delivers listeners a powerful wallop of punchy piano and driving, melodic bass lines that build up to the song’s chorus, “Reload, motherfucker, reload!” At its heaviest moments, on songs like “Stranger,” “Perfect One” and the album’s opener and title track, When I Fall, has the unremitting vigor of The Black Keys and the White Stripes with gruff, bluesy vocals, fuzzed out guitars and prevailing rhythms that garner ample foot stomping. Even when they slow things down a bit, Peculiar Gentlemen do not languish, but rather catch a groove with as much musical focus and sincerity as bands like Spoon or Wilco. If nothing else, Peculiar Gentlemen is a self-assured band deserving of attention from critics and listeners alike.

When I Fall hits shelves and online stores on June 18 and a string of shows in New York will support the release. It is the perfect summer record that will no doubt accumulate heavy rotation by a wide audience.
